Sporting were not totally convincing in their 1-0 victory away to Shakhtar two weeks ago, with Liedson’s late winner somewhat undeserved; still, they took all the points and should find it easier in Lisbon.

Sporting have 4 clean sheets in a row and even though they haven’t been scoring too often (just 3 goals in those games), they have done enough to win games; their last 4 victories have been split between three 1-0s and one 2-0 (courtesy of a last minute goal).

The Ukranian premier league is coming into its mid-season break and Shakhtar are 15 points behind leaders Dynamo Kyiv; they have been under-performing and in the CL, they have lost their last two at home to Barcelona (1-2) and Sporting.

Anything other than a win in Portugal and Shakhtar will effectively be out of the competition and last season’s CL performance doesn’t offer much hope; they lost their last 4 CL group games last season as the Ukranian league break was starting and could again be affected by the lack of match practice.

Sporting are just getting into gear in the Liga Sagres and can continue their solid form - the $1.83 for the home win at Bet365 looks decent.
