After winning convincingly 4-0 at home to FA cup winners Portsmouth last week, Chelsea have the perfect platform to build their league challenge on; Scolari has acquitted himself well in his first few weeks in charge and things are looking good for the London club.
Scolari’s signing Deco performed particularly well, even if he should have been sent off in the first few minutes against Portsmouth for a poor challenge, and with Frank Lampard, he pulled the strings for the Chelsea midfield, in their demolition of the south-coast club.

Last season’s 1-1 draw with Wigan at Stamford Bridge, with Heskey scoring in stoppage time to equalise, was the first time in 7 meetings that Wigan have taken points off Chelsea; Chelsea will want to get back to their winning record against Wigan on Sunday, and with their 1-1 draw last season seriously denting their hopes of challenging for the title, there is extra motivation for Chelsea to win this game.
However, despite odds on Chelsea to win at around the $1.40 mark, do not expect Chelsea to take Wigan apart in the same fashion as Portsmouth.
Steve Bruce has made Wigan a harder prospect to score goals against and historically, Chelsea haven’t thrashed Wigan in their head-to-heads; 4 out of Chelsea’s 6 wins over Wigan have been by one goal, and though Chelsea looked potent in attack last week, Steve Bruce’s Wigan should be more resilient defensively against last season’s runners up.
With little value in the fixed odds for the Chelsea win, the bet to go for could be the handicap (Wigan +1 goal) draw at $3.75 from Stan James.
