Michael Owen came off the bench to score the only goal in Newcastle’s win over Bolton last week (Owen again got the winner in extra-time at Championship side Coventry in the League Cup last Tuesday), which followed Newcastle’s opening day 1-1 draw at Man Utd; new signings Collocini and Gutierrez have impressed and goalkeeper Shay Given is playing well, with a fantastic performance at Man Utd followed by a penalty save against Bolton last week.

With Cesc Fabregas returning against Twente, Arsenal should be back to something like their best on Saturday but Newcastle’s solid result at Old Trafford 2 weeks ago will give them confidence that they can compete with the biggest teams in the league.
