Premiership league table
Both sides have not won for 4 games, with Wigan’s 4 losses in a row being worse than Portsmouth’s 2 draws and 2 losses; despite some solid performances (notably away to Liverpool, where they led 2-1 until Valencia’s sending-off), Wigan are in the relegation zone and results are not going their way.
While they have been decent defensively under Steve Bruce, Wigan have now conceded 9 goals in their last 3 league games – Portsmouth, with the attacking talents of England duo Crouch and Defoe, can take advantage.

The appointment of Harry Redknapp’s assistant Tony Adams ensures some stability at Pompey, and they defended well in his first official game in charge, a 0-1 loss away to Liverpool; Portsmouth offered little going forward on Wednesday, but they have been a different side away from home this season.
Including their Uefa Cup games, away from home Portsmouth have had a terrible 1-1-5 record, while at home that has been reversed dramatically and they have a 4-1-1 record at Fratton Park.
Portsmouth won 5 out of last 6 meetings since early 2006 and with Wigan struggling for form, they could continue their superiority over the Latics on Saturday; Portsmouth are a decent $1.95 to win at William Hill.
