Coach: Jean Fernandez (Fra)
An experienced coach for which Auxerre is his twelfth club as a manager. Having spent nearly a decade away from France, Fernandez returned to take over at Sochaux in 1999 and has since coached Metz and Marseille before moving to Auxerre for the 2006-07 season.
Having brought both Sochaux and Metz up from Ligue 2 and stablised their presence in the top division the following season, his reputation is more for pragmatic football and his time at both Marseille and Auxerre, where expectations are higher, has been mixed and he led Auxerre to their worst position (15th) in 26 seasons.

Summary:
Auxerre's terrible end to the 2007/08 season, picking up just 9 points in their last 12 games, has lowered expectations coming into the new season and a poor start could put pressure on coach Fernandez who doesn't have a habit of staying places long.
The lack of major transfer activity in the forward line, promising striker Mauricio Dale from Martigues aside, is a cause for concern for a team who failed to score in 17 of their 38 league games last season.
Defensively, they should be fine, so they shouldn't have relegation worries but a lack of reliable firepower could mean that anything higher than 10th can't be expected.
