LIGUE 1 TEAM PREVIEWS
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN FC
Coach: Paul Le Guen (Fra)
As a player, Le Guen played nearly 250 games for PSG. Since turning coach, he has managed Rennes, Lyon (where he won three league titles), Rangers and PSG, but left under a cloud at both Rennes and Rangers. His first half-season at PSG he saved them from relegation but he couldn't improve PSG in his first full season in 2007/08, finishing in 16th.

Star Player:
Bought from AS Roma in the summer, Ludovic Giuly may be 32, but has been an influential player at Monaco, Barcelona, Roma and France in the past five or six seasons and he remains one of the most vibrant and exciting playmakers in Europe. He arrives at the club with another veteran, Claude Makelele from Chelsea, and their experience could be vital.

Summary:
The summer arrivals of Giuly and Makelele add experience to the side, whilst Hoarau (28 goals in 38 games for Le Havre last year) adds proven goalscoring prowess to the side. Two poor seasons, finishing 15th and 16th, should be overturned in 2008/09, but if they don't start well, they may not be able to finish any higher than around 10th. Le Guen is unlikely to go anywhere, however badly they start, and internal problems at the club could lead them to a third successive poor campaign. As a result, there should be caution in backing PSG this season.
However, the players are there for PSG to succeed and they should be in the hunt for a UEFA Cup spot and are capable of finishing in the top six.
