Nancy v Rennes
Ligue 1 - Saturday 17 May 2008
Nancy, in 3rd, are needing a win to guarantee a qualification spot in next season's Champions League, whilst Rennes, in 7th, are still in the hunt for a UEFA Cup spot.
Nancy, though, have only won the once in five games (home against second-bottom Strasbourg), but have been unbeaten all season at home (13-5-0).
Nancy lost 0-1 at Lyon last week in another low-scoring game, Nancy conceding their 27th goal of the league season (the best defensive record in the league). In total, 27 of Nancy's 37 league games have seen under 2.5 goals.
Rennes are in good form and have lost just the once in 12 games (to title challenging Bordeaux) but have drawn four times (all away) in that run.
However, Rennes' surge up the table has largely been down to their recent home record (the 3-2 win over Toulouse last week being their 7th home victory of 2008), whilst away from home their only victory on the road in 2008 was at Monaco; but, in that time, they have drawn six times on the road.
In those eight away games since the start of January, Rennes have managed to keep just the one clean sheet. Nancy, meanwhile, have only failed to score in one of 18 home games.
Nancy's unbeaten home record and Rennes' tendency to draw their away games, points the way for a draw. Nancy are always likely to score at home and Rennes have not been too tight defensively, so a correct score of 1-1 might be worth considering too.
