Sochaux v PSG

Ligue 1 - Saturday 17 May 2008

Sochaux have only 18 points from 18 home games this season,(3-9-6) which is the league 2nd worst home points total in the league; they have drawn a lot, though and are a tough side to beat, being undefeated at home for almost 5 months.

With their Ligue 1 status guaranteed for next season, Sochaux have eased the tempo in recent games, and are winless in 5.

PSG, despite another poor league campaign this season, are on-course for a surprising cup-double; they have already won the League Cup (2-1 vs Lens) and they will play the Coupe de France next week against Lyon.

PSG are in 16th and have a solid-enough 1 point advantage over Toulouse and Lens who are both behind them, with Lens occupying the final relegation spot in 18th.

PSG’s overall record away is good (5-5-8), but since New Year they have been terrible away from home taking just 2 points from a possible 27 points away (0-2-7), and this away form has been the major reason for their precarious position near the relegation zone this season.

Sochaux have drawn their last 3 home games and at home they are unbeaten for 9 games, but with only 2 wins to 7 draws; of nine draws at home this season, six were 1-1 and three were 0-0.

Sochaux might technically have little to play for, but they will want to preserve their unbeaten run at home as well as give their fans a solid send-off and another draw may even suit both sides, as Toulouse and Lens will both have to win their games against Valenciennes and a title-seeking Bordeaux, respectively, to leapfrog PSG into safety.

PSG have drawn the last two and though they will be going for the win, away from home they seem unable to hold on to games, with their away draw at Toulouse two weeks ago (1-1), where Toulouse equalised in the last minute, serving as a good example of that.

Six of PSG’s 13 draws this season have been 1-1s and the other seven have been 0-0s; the draw is available at a best price of $3.30 from Expekt, but with the sides’ preference for the 1-1 and 0-0 scoreline, the correct scores taken with a split stake offer better value.
