Milan v Udinese

Serie A - Sunday 18 May 2008

Milan and Udinese are both 2 points behind a Champions League and a Uefa Cup place respectively and both sides go into this game on the back of a loss, with Milan losing 1-3 away to Napoli and Udinese losing 0-2 at home to Cagliari.

Milan’s home form this season, despite their win over Inter (2-1) in the derby two weeks ago, has been notoriously average for a club of their size; 7-7-4 and 28 points from 18 home games has been their stumbling block to a challenge for the title this season.

With Fiorentina 2 points ahead of them, Milan will need a win and for Fiorentina not to win to take the 4th Champions League place.

8th place Udinese have had the 5th best away record in Serie A, taking 26 points from 18 games (7-5-6), but the majority of those points were won against the worst sides in the league; away to the top half sides, Udinese’s record is a less impressive 2-2-4 from 8 games.

Udinese’s last away loss was a 0-3 drubbing at the hands of 6th place Sampdoria, and that game, as well as being Sampdoria’s following fixture after a poor 0-1 loss away to now-16th placed Reggina, also followed a home loss for Udinese; that pattern could again be repeated on Sunday and Milan will not tolerate failure to qualify for the Champions League.

5 out of Udinese’s last 7 losses have been by 2 goals and with Milan a best price of only $1.35 to win, the -2 goal handicap draw offers better value at $4.33 from Sporting Bet.

Mentioned should also be made of the Over3.5 goals market; As 5 out of Milan’s last 6 games have had 4 goals or more, the over 3.5 goals bet at $2.50 from Sporting Bet may tempt some, with the game likely to be open and high scoring.

Stake: 2pts
Bet: Handicap Draw (Milan -2 goals)
Odds: $4.33

Catania v AS Roma

Serie A - Sunday 18 May 2008

Roma, who are just 1 point behind Inter at the top, will need results to go their way if they are to take the title on Sunday, but relegation is in 17th place Catania’s hands, who are 2 points ahead of Parma in the final relegation spot.

Roma have coped well with the absence of key player Totti in recent weeks and have put the pressure on Inter with some impressive form; Roma have won 10 out of their last 14 games, and are unbeaten in their last 8, winning 6 out of those games.

Against a Catania side who are strongest in Sicily and have relegation to avoid, Roma may find it tough as their record away to the bottom half clubs is not typically title-winning (3-4-2), and since December, away to the worst sides, their record is a poor 1-3-2.

Yet, Catania gave fellow relegation-candidates Reggina their only away win of the season in their last home game, and have not won in their last 3 games, losing 2 of those; they are not ending the season well and have lost 4 out of their last 7 games in the league.

Roma won comfortably in their last 2 away games to 6th place Sampdoria (3-0) and 7th place Udinese (3-1), and in good form, they will want to push Inter all the way and hope for another collapse from the holders against Parma.

Roma are a best price of $1.67 to win, and this is too short too take; instead, considering their recent away victories and that when they have won away, it has been convincing (with 6 of their 9 away wins being by 2 goals or more), the handicap win at $3.00 from Bet365 should offer more value.

Stake: 5pts
Bet: Handicap Roma win (Catania +1 goal)
Odds: $3.00
